Tips och bästa praxis
- Margin is profit as a percentage of revenue (selling price). Markup is profit as a percentage of cost.
- A 50% markup is a 33% margin; a 50% margin is a 100% markup. They're NOT the same number.
- To convert: margin = markup / (1 + markup); markup = margin / (1 − margin). Both as decimals.
- For pricing decisions, calculate from cost up using markup; for analysing existing sales, compute margin from revenue and cost.
- Negative margin means you're selling below cost — useful loss-leader analysis or a sign of pricing error.
